Jack Wilson, Who Shot and Killed Fort Worth Church Gunman, Is County Commission Candidate Whose Slogan Is ‘Make Sure Your Vote Is on Target’

Jack Wilson, the man who used his gun to save his Fort Worth congregation from a shooter Sunday, is a county commission candidate whose slogan is, “Make sure your vote is on target.”

Wilson shot and killed a gunman during Sunday services at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Tarrant County, Texas, which is about 8 miles due west of Fort Worth, the Washington Examiner said. Wilson was a volunteer security officer.

The campaign slogan was in place several weeks before the shooting, KRMG said.

Wilson, aged 70,  is running for the Precinct Three seat of the four-member County Commission in Hood County, Texas, population 51,000, which is located about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Texas.

Precinct Three includes the city of Granbury and nearby communities.

A post on Wilson’s Facebook campaign page said:

I just want to thank all who have sent their prayers and comments on the events of today. The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, but evil exists and I had to take out an active shooter in church.

I’m thankful to GOD that I have been blessed with the ability and desire to serve him in the role of head of security at the church. I am very sad in the loss of two dear friends and brothers in CHRIST, but evil does exist in this world and I and other members are not going to allow evil to succeed. Please pray for all the members and their families in this time. Thank you for your prayers and understanding.

The suspect was identified as Keith Thomas Kinnunen, 43. Two church members died before Wilson took the gunman down with a shot to the head, taken from a distance of 50 feet within six seconds of the time of the shooting of the first church member.

In addition to being a political candidate, Wilson is a former Texas reserve deputy sheriff, KRMG said.

He also was president of On Target Firearms Training Academy until 2016, the Examiner said.

Wilson supports President Donald Trump. On December 19, he posted this statement on his Facebook campaign page: “I totally stand by President Trump. Please be sure you are registered to vote and please vote. The survival of the USA is in the balance in 2020!!!”
